KOReader is a document reader that volunteers around the world develop. It runs on Kindle, Kobo, PocketBook and reMarkable e-readers as well as Android and Linux, and it opens EPUB, PDF, DjVu, Mobi, comics and many other formats. It can also connect to a Calibre library, so your books stay in your own folder.
It gives you control of fonts, margins and layout that the store apps hide, and it needs no account. The settings are deep and take time to learn, and installing it on a Kindle means unlocking the device first, so read the project's notes before you try. It takes donations through Liberapay.

This badge reports a dated review. It is not a certification and it costs nothing. Link it to this page and leave the numbers alone: the image always shows the current score.

For comparison, we also reviewed Amazon Kindle (13/30) as a benchmark.
