Snapchat
A camera app built around filters, lenses and messages that disappear, paid for by advertising.
Benchmark review. Giants are reviewed rarely, to show what the tools in the directory are measured against. This one is not listed in the directory, and it is an example, not a recommendation. Scores are our opinion on the six questions, based on public sources and dated October 2026.

Snapchat opens on the camera, and its lenses are the product most people know. They are well made and fun, which is why Delivery is a 5. Snap earns most of its money from advertising, and features such as Snapstreaks, which reward daily use, are the kind of design our Self-direction question looks at.
Your memories and friends live in the app, so Lock-in is our estimate and we have not checked how much you can export. Snap faces lawsuits, and those are allegations that we left out of the score. As of October 2026 this is our opinion, based on public sources, and if you spot an error, write to hello@toolsforconviviality.com and we will check it and correct it. Compare it with the tools in Photo and video effects.
