Claude is a capable assistant that does writing, analysis and coding well, so it scores a 4 on Delivery. Like ChatGPT it is a closed service that runs on its maker's servers, needs an account and cannot be run on your own machine.

It scores a point higher than ChatGPT on Power mostly because of how it handles your data. Anthropic's consumer terms ask Free, Pro and Max users to choose whether their chats may be used to improve Claude, with five years of retention if you say yes and 30 days if you say no, and commercial and API use sit outside that choice. This site was built with help from Claude, so weigh this review with that in mind. Either way it is a hosted product from one company, which is the gap the open tools in this category fill.
