goose is a general-purpose AI agent, not only a coding tool, that runs on your own machine as a desktop app, a command-line tool or an API you can embed. It is Apache-2.0 licensed and sits within the Agentic AI Foundation at the Linux Foundation. It works with more than 15 model providers, including local ones through Ollama, and connects to many extensions through the Model Context Protocol.

You choose the model and can keep everything local, so no single company controls what the agent does or sees. Like any agent it acts with your files and logins, so keep its access narrow. What you pay depends on the models you connect, and we could not describe its governance beyond what its repository links to.

This badge reports a dated review. It is not a certification and it costs nothing. Link it to this page and leave the numbers alone: the image always shows the current score.

For dark backgrounds, use goose-dark.svg in place of goose-light.svg.

For comparison, we also reviewed ChatGPT (14/30) and Claude (15/30) as a benchmark.
