Firefox is open source and made by Mozilla, a nonprofit foundation, on an engine of its own, which keeps the web from running on a single browser engine. It syncs, it has strong privacy settings, and it works with nearly every site, so Delivery is a 5.

Most of Mozilla's income has come from search deals, mainly with Google, and we left a 3 on Power for that tension. Check the current privacy settings after you install it, since defaults change. Scores are our reading of public sources.

    What stands out

  • Open source, made by a nonprofit foundation
  • Runs on its own engine, so the web does not depend on one browser
  • Funded largely by a search deal with Google

This badge reports a dated review. It is not a certification and it costs nothing. Link it to this page and leave the numbers alone: the image always shows the current score.

For dark backgrounds, use firefox-dark.svg in place of firefox-light.svg.

For comparison, we also reviewed Google Chrome (17/30) as a benchmark.
