Benchmark review. Giants are reviewed rarely, to show what the tools in the directory are measured against. This one is not listed in the directory, and it is an example, not a recommendation. Scores are our opinion on the six questions, based on public sources and dated October 2026.

Google News gathers stories from many publishers in one place and is easy to use, so Delivery is a 4. A ranking system chooses what appears and in what order, and its For You section uses what you have read and searched before, which is the kind of design our Self-direction question looks at.

Google earns most of its money from advertising, and one company's ranking decides much of what many people see first, so Power is a 1. You can leave, since the stories live on publishers' sites, though your reading history stays with Google. As of October 2026 this is our opinion, based on public sources, and if you spot an error, write to hello@toolsforconviviality.com and we will check it and correct it. Compare it with the tools in News and feeds.
